Battle Stations

  1. Battle stations of Staff Officers and Flag enlisted personnel are so assigned as to assist Commander Cruisers in the exercise of command in the strategical and tactical control of the Cruisers.

  2. In order to provide means for carrying out these functions there must be:

    1. An accurate plot and track of all forces (own and enemy) including:

      1. Plot of all forces from all available sources of information showing relative positions, dispositions, composition and movements of own and enemy forces.

      2. Plot and track of all forces, during the approach preliminary to deployment.

      3. Tactical and gunnery plot and track of all forces, particularly own and enemy main bodies, after deployment.

    2. Continuous supervision and control of Communications--visual, sound and radio.

    3. Prompt and accurate coding and decoding of despatches.

    4. Collection, combination and dissemination of Combat Intelligence.

    5. Complete and accurate records of events.

  1. Depending on condition existing at the time, the Chief of Staff will specify any one of the following methods of standing Flag Bridge Watches underway:

    1. All Hands.

    2. Watch and Watch.

    3. Watch in Three.

    4. Normal Watch.

  2. When an "All Hands" Watch is prescribed Stations and Duties will be as follows:

    Personnel Station Duty

    Operations Officer. Flag Plot. Assist. to Chief of Staff. Strategical Plot. Combat Intelligence.
    Damage Control Officer. Flag Plot or Flag Bridge. Tactical Plot. Combat Intelligence.
    Gunnery Officer. Flat Plot or Flag Bridge. Fire distribution. Gunnery Signals. Ammunition Expenditure.
    Aviation Officer. Flag Bridge -- Foretop. Air Operations. Foretop observe for tactical plot.
    Flag Secretary. Flag Plot. Historian. Assists in the Tac. Plot. Combat Intelligence. Assist. Strategical Plot.
    Radio Officer. Radio Room -- Flag Plot. Radio Control. Radio intelligence and radio security. Supervision coding board. Message distribution.
    Flag Lieutenant Flag Bridge. Tactical Signals.
