GENERAL HENRI HONORÉ GIRAUD APPEAL TO FRENCH FORCES IN NORTH AFRICA

(Heard over Algiers radio; point of origin unknown)

November 8, 1942

New York Times, November 9, 1942.

For the last two years you have scrupulously kept the terms of the armistice in spite of repeated violations by our enemies. Today Germany and Italy want to occupy North Africa. America forestalls them and assures us of her loyal and disinterested support. This is our chance of revival. We cannot neglect this opportunity of recovery. I take up my action station among you. I ask for your confidence. You have mine. We have one passion-France; and one aim-victory. Remember that the African Army holds in its hands the fate of France.
