United Nations Review.

The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of U.S.S.R., and the Board of Regents of Yugoslavia, determined to carry on the war against the German invaders to the end, desiring further to strengthen the friendship existing between the peoples of the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia who are waging a joint struggle against the common enemy, Hitlerite Germany, expressing their unbending will to secure close co-operation between the peoples of both countries and all the United Nations in time of war and in peace, to make their contribution to the cause of postwar organization of peace and security, confident that the consolidation of friendship between the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia meets vital interests of both peoples and will serve in the best possible manner the cause of further economic development of both countries, have decided to conclude with this end in view the present treaty and have appointed as their plenipotentiaries: for the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Union ofSoviet Socialist Republics, V. M. Molotov, People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs of the U.S.S.R.; for the Board of Regents of Yugoslavia, Marshal Josip Broz Tito, President of the Council of Ministers of Yugoslavia, who, after an exchange of their credentials found in due form and good order, agreed, upon the following:

Each of the High Contracting Parties will continue jointly with the other Party and with all the United Nations the struggle against Germany until final victory. The High Contracting Parties undertake to render each other military and other assistance in their struggle by every means at their disposal.

In the event of one of the High Contracting Parties in the postwar period finding itself involved in hostilities with Germany, the latter having resumed her aggressive policy, or with some state united with Germany directly or in any other form in such a war, the other High Contracting Party will immediately render to the Contracting Party involved in hostilities military and other assistance and support by every means at its disposal.

The High Contracting Parties declare that they will participate in a spirit of most sincere collaboration in all international actions to ensure peace and security of nations and will contribute their full share towards the materialization of these lofty aims. The High Contracting Parties declare that the application of the present treaty will conform to international principles in the adoption of which they have participated.

Each of the High Contracting Parties undertakes not to conclude any alliance and not to take part in any coalition directed against the other High Contracting Party.

The High Contracting Parties declare that after the termination of the present war they will continue to act in a spirit of friendship and collaboration with a view to further development and consolidation of economic and cultural ties between the peoples of the two countries.

The present treaty comes into force immediately upon being signed and is subject to ratification within the shortest possible time. The exchange of the ratification instruments shall be effected in Belgrade as soon as possible. The present treaty shall remain in force for twenty years from the moment of its signature. If at the end of this twenty-year period one of the High Contracting Parties does not declare one year prior to the expiration of the term its desire to renounce the treaty it shall remain in force for the next five years, and thus each time until one of the High Contracting Parties, one year prior to the expiration of the current five-year term, gives notice in writing of its intention to discontinue its operation.

In testimony whereof the plenipotentiaries have signed the present treaty and affixed their seals thereto.

Done in Moscow on April 11, 1945, in two copies each in the Russian and Serbo-Croat languages, both texts having equal force.
