HITLER'S DECREE ON COMMAND OF THE WEHRMACHT, FEBRUARY 4, 1938

As of now, I am personally assuming direct command of the entire Wehrmacht.

The former Department of the Wehrmacht in the Reich Ministry of War, with all its assignments, comes directly under my command as the High Command of the Wehrmacht and as my military staff.

The former Chief of the Department of the Wehrmacht becomes Chief of Staff of the High Command of the Wehrmacht with the title "Chief of the High Command of the Wehrmacht." His rank is equivalent to that of a Reich Minister.

The High Command of the Wehrmacht assumes control of the affairs of the Reich Ministry of War, the Chief of the Wehrmacht exercises, in my name, the authority hitherto vested in the Reich Minister of War.

The obligation of the High Command of the Wehrmacht in time of peace is the unified preparation in all spheres of the defense of the Reich according to my directives.
