PRODUCTION BEGINS ON UNIVERSAL PICTURES' AND AMBLIN ENTERTAINMENT'S JURASSIC PARK III Universal City, California, September 8, 2000...Principal photography has commenced on Universal Pictures' and Amblin Entertainment's Jurassic ParkIII, the third installment in the studio's most successful film franchise ever. Jurassic Park III is scheduled to be released July 18, 2001. Joe Johnston (October Sky, Jumanji) will direct, with Kathleen Kennedy and Larry Franco producing. Steven Spielberg will serve as executive producer. The screenplay was written by Peter Buchman, based on characters created by Michael Crichton, and Stan Winston and the Oscar-winning visual effects wizards at Industrial Light & Magic will once again create amazing dinosaur effects, including new and even more astonishing creatures. Sam Neill returns in the role of Dr. Alan Grant, which he originated inJurassic Park, and is joined by William H. Macy (Fargo), Tea Leoni (The Family Man), Alessandro Nivola (Love's Labour Lost), Michael Jeter (The Green Mile) and Trevor Morgan (The Patriot). The production will begin shooting on locations in Hawaii, including an Army base in Oahu and the Wailua River in Kauai. and continue on locations in Southern California and on sound stages on the Universal lot. Jurassic Park III will continue the series begun in 1993's Jurassic Park and its 1997 sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The first two Jurassic Park films have generated more than $1.5 billion in combined worldwide box office revenue. Based on Michael Crichton's best-selling novel, Jurassic Park was directed by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Michael Crichton and David Koepp. Released in 1993, the film grossed $913,000,000 worldwide. The 1997 sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, was also directed by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by David Koepp, based upon Michael Crichton's novel The Lost World.
