As a child, Mowgli disappeared into the jungle during an attack by a tiger which killed his father. He grows up under the tutelage of Baloo (a bear), Bagheera (a panther), and a family of wolves. When he encounters civilization again, he is reunited with his childhood playmate, Kitty, now a beautiful young woman, daughter of the widowed Colonel. She is being courted by Captain Boone who believes Mowgli can lead him to unimaginable treasure.

Alexander Voysey has come back to Australia after years in England as a theater critic, bringing with him his beautiful new wife. His daughter Sally and brother-in-law Jack try to accomodate him, but Alexander sees fault in everything they do, including how they've maintained the family's property. Meanwhile both Jack and Dr. Max Askey, the local doctor, fall in love with the new Mrs. Voysey while Sally looks to her step-mother for advice about her own infatuation with Max.
